Wen: Development of China-Russia strategic partnership sound

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, and speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov during his official visit to Russia.

During the meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Wen Jiabao said the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation has yielded steady and sound development during the past 12 years.

Wen suggested that Russia and China maintain close contact and coordination on major world and regional af

fairs so as to preserve the two countries' security, safeguard world peace and stability, and boost cultural exchange and cooperation.

Medvedev spoke highly of the regular meeting between Wen and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, saying it marked a significant step forward in bilateral pragmatic cooperation.

He said Russia is willing to offer further assistance to the quake-hit southwest China.

Earlier on Tuesday, Wen Jiabao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held the 13th regular prime ministers' meeting between the two countries. They exchanged views on the current global financial crisis, agreeing that China and Russia could enhance contact and coordination to promote the steady and sound development of the world economy and finance.

A Sino-Russian pact on a pipeline from Siberia to supply oil to China's northeast was among the agreements witnessed by Premier Wen Jiabao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday.
