Scary sidewalk turns out to be isolation belt

A "sidewalk" in Changchun city, Jilin province which went viral by shocking people with its weird position and the danger posed to pedestrians, turned out to actually be an isolation belt, according to the city's construction committee, xwh.cn reported on Thursday.

Earlier reports with pictures showing people walking on a narrow sidewalk which stands in the middle of a road spread widely on the Internet. The sidewalk is less than 2 meters wide.

Criticism about the design has made the road famous overnight, while an official from the city's construction committee said pedestrians were not allowed to walk on it because it was actually an isolation belt.

Proper measures will be taken to ban people from walking on the belt, the committee said.
