Twice dumped hippo dies

A hippo that fell twice while being transported on two consecutive days died Monday morning, the official micro blog of taiwan.cn reported.

It burst into tears twice after the two accidents, creating a huge sympathy both online and offline.

The hippo fell down from a truck in transit and broke a tooth on Friday. Milk-like white liquid began falling from its eyes as it helplessly sat in the middle of the road. What's worse, when it was sent to a pond for treatment the next day, the iron chain tied to its cage in which it was confined broke down during the transportation, throwing the animal to the ground from two meters. The pain again made the animal cry.

The local authorities said the hippo died from "severe dereliction" during the transportation and its owner may face up to one year sentence.
