Lee used to work as the resident manager of the InterContinental Hotel Hong Kong, where he was the right-hand man of the general manager. He joked: "I was never a manager who enjoys staying in the office. There was such an excitement to be working with all those brilliant hoteliers, and the exposure to such large-scale multi-venue F&B operations was extraordinary."
"Our team in Beijing has left me with an exceptionally good impression. I thought it was a wonderful hotel with truly helpful and friendly staff," Lee recalls of his first visit a while back. It was not long before he received an official offer to become the general manager of the InterContinental Hotel Financial Street.
The fact that he has only been at the job for such a short period of time has not stopped this 40-year-old hotelier from observing every aspect of the hotel and talking to every employee whenever he has a chance.
Lee mentioned, "I have to admit our staff's professionalism and how committed they are to their jobs has really awed me during the hotel's internal transition period." He believes the support from his team at InterContinental Hotel Group made the hotel's internal transition so seamless.
"Although one small challenge remains - trying to remember 390 names and faces as soon as I possibly can," he jested and expressed his sincere appreciation. "I get to devote myself to work completely, thanks to help from my team the whole way through. They have done a marvelous job helping me and my families settle down in Beijing."
On top of the promotion, Lee and his wife recently welcomed a new addition to their family. "I think it's genuinely easier to try to manage a hotel of 390 employees than trying to know your way around a newborn. I thought it would be handier since he is my second child, turns out I was wrong," he said jokingly. When asked how he feels about the host country: "I'm proud to say my wife is Chinese, which I think says a lot! (Laugh)…and I am actually fluent in Chinese!" Lee never ceases to surprise you.
As the new general manager of the InterContinental Hotel Beijing Financial Street, Frankson Lee is certainly a man of many things, a loving father, a passionate hotelier and a genuinely witty manager.
