Shanghai Auto Museum, the first dedicated auto museum in China, is located in the Auto Expo Park of Shanghai International Automobile City. The museum covers an area of 28,000 square meters, and its exhibition area exceeds 10,000 square meters. With more than 400 million yuan's investment, it was completed on Oct. 24, 2006, and opened to the public on Jan. 17, 2007.
The currently open areas of the auto museum include History Pavilion, Antique Car Pavilion, and Exploration Pavilion. Nearly 70 classic real cars are exhibited in the museum, showing a hundred-year history of auto since it was born. The museum offers a platform for visitors to appreciate antique cars and understand the auto history.
The History Pavilion is divided into many themed areas in accordance with car development history, 27 classic and representative autos are displayed in the pavilion.
The Antique Car Pavilion shows about 40 classic cars from 20 brands from 1900 to 1970, introducing style characteristics of auto history in different periods.
The Exploration Pavilion is on the third floor, established specifically for young visitors. Covering an area of 2,000 square meters, the pavilion gives a systematic and rich explanation of auto structure, power, safety, comfort, and future development through picture, text, and multimedia games.
As a new city cultural landmark, Shanghai Auto Museum offers an exchange and entertainment platform for car enthusiasts, and a perfect place for youngsters to learn about the history, technology and culture about autos.
