RIO DE JANEIRO - FIFA executive committee member Marco Polo Del Nero has been elected president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

The 73-year-old will replace Jose Maria Marin next January on a four-year term after being elected unopposed, the CBF announced on Wednesday.

Currently the CBF's vice-president and chairman of Brazilian Serie B club Figueirense, Del Nero vowed to bring "continuity" to the post.

"The president [Marin] and his administration, of which I am a part, achieved important advances, such as bringing football to the whole country," Del Nero said during a press conference.

"There are aspects that need to be improved and we will seek and accept suggestions throughout the sporting world."

Del Nero is also an executive committee member of Conmebol, South American football's governing body.
