KUALA LUMPUR - A group of world sports stars were nominated on Wednesday for 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards, who were elected by a ballot by the world's media.
Among the biggest names of the nominees are Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, women's tennis world number one Serena Williams, Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel, US golf star Tiger Woods, Russian pole vault legend Yelena Isinbayeva, Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal, etc..
Laureus World Sports Academy Chairman Edwin Moses said he has never seen such a potentially close contest in so many categories before. This is going to be a classic year, he added.
The 15th Laureus World Sports Awards, which recognize sporting achievement during the calendar year 2013, will be unveiled here on March 26.
Bolt and Britain's Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis received the biggest individual prizes in the 2013 event.
