Dec 11, 2012, marked the fifth anniversary of Tianjin East Port's opening. Five years ago, the port officially opened its first phase program covering 4 square kilometers.
It now operates a 10-square-kilometer port. As a significant development and opening-up area in Tianjin Binhai New Area, the port functions as a core area to construct the North China International Shipping Center.
The Northern International Shipping Center and Logistic Center is China’s new functional orientation to the Binhai New Area.
In October 2011, East Port issued the Implementation Plan for Comprehensive Reform of the East Port Free Trade Zone.
The plan includes 21 projects under four categories of: an international ship registration system, international shipping tax, shipping finance and chartering business.
The plan specifies that it will take 5 to 10 years to shape the Dongjiang port into a well-functioned international shipping financing center to support the Binhai New Area’s development.
As the largest and most opened free port in China, East Port invited business & investment from both home and abroad on Feb.8 2007.
Tianjin port is comprised of four port areas: Beijiang port, Nanjiang port, Dongjiang port and Haihe River port.
