At the back of the battlefield, there was an armed force which was formed by people of the Hui nationality and was led by the China Communist Party. It fought against Japanese army successfully. Lan Zhaofa, who is 87 years old now, took part in the Hui branch. On the 1st, August, he told the journalist of dzwww.com how they fought against Japanese army.

In the summer of 1945, the Eighth Route Army planed to attack the County of Matou, which was then occupied by Japanese army. Lan’s mission was going to a mosque to ask the imam if they could break down the wall behind the mosque, so that they could come in and hide. In the mosque, they burrowed a hole for three days and nights successively, until the hole led all the way to the bunker of the enemy. Then, They used wood treads to carry the explosives to the bunker. They aimed at the explosives and fired. The whole three-layer turret broke down and all the 24 Japanese soldiers were killed.
