Location: Wuxi, Jiangsu province
In the Tai’erzhuang Battle, Chinese soldiers’ blood incarnadined this town of long history. Sun Yingjie, the veteran who is 93 years old now, was responsible for burying the dead body. He was emotional when talking about that period of history.
So many people died in Tai’erzhuang Battle. Later, we were told to bury their bodies. We buried more than 1000 bodies among which some were Japanese and some were Chinese. Some bodies decayed and smelled stink all around the canal. We each had to wear two masks. After digging a pit, we dragged the bodies into the pit. Soldiers and commanders were mixed in the pit and buried together. Sometimes we needed to carry stretchers with wounded soldiers on it. Some soldiers died halfway.
