The 30 Olympic venues located in Beijing are built by tens of thousands of migrant workers from across the country. The Fengtai Softball Field was the first venue completed in June 2006, while the others all progressing on schedule. The last venue to be completed is the National Stadium, which will be ready in March 2008.

The city has launched a series of etiquette campaigns. Residents have been asked to stamp out bad habits such as spitting, littering or jumping queues; taxi drivers have been forbidden from smoking in their vehicles and shopkeepers told to be more customer-friendly.
