The 2016 Kunming International Marathon will be held on Feb 28, kunming.cn reported.

The event has been held in Kunming for five years in a row. As it grew in size, it made progress in participation, path design and organization.

Landmarks of Kunming were incorporated into the running route of this international sports event over the past five years.

According to the organizing committee, a total of 14,315 contestants had signed up by Feb 18, with 8,413 participating in the half marathon.

"We hope the event will become a name card for Kunming, since it attracts people from both home and abroad and shows the beauty of Kunming through its various scenic aspects," said Jin Feibao, a famous Chinese explorer.

For the first time, the event will be covered live by CCTV, China’s Central Television.
