August will be the biggest month for astronomy enthusiasts in 2014 since the yearly Perseid meteor shower is expect to reach its peak on Aug 13 and the second "supermoon" of this year will be visible on Aug 11.
The distance between the earth and the moon will be about 50,000 kilometers shorter than usual, and people will have a chance to see the closest and fullest moon in 2014.
The Perseid meteor shower is among the strongest of the annual meter showers, and statistics show that it had a maximum of 400 meteors per hour in 1992.
