Huaning's intricate pottery will be displayed alongside other great artworks during the Yunnan Cultural Industry Expo set to open August 9-14. Pottery companies, artists' works and Miao ethnic embroidery companies from Huaning county will all be on display at the Kungming International Convention and Exhibition Center, where the expo will be held.

Huaning pottery, also named Ningzhou pottery during ancient times, was considered the best pottery in the Dian kingdom.

Huaning pottery is still famous and is known for its unique construction and remains a collector favorite. Huaning county has more than 40 pottery companies. Compared to three years ago, the Production value increased from 6 million yuan ($960,600) to 200 million yuan ($33 million) among the county’s pottery companies.

Huaning's local government supports the pottery industry and has helped the industry grow through implementing policies that help upgrade facilities and other aspects of the pottery industry.

Shushi Pottery, a local Huaning county company, has become a representative of Huaning pottery industry.

"Huaning pottery has strong culture and ethnic characteristics," said Shuwen, the company's president.

Brothers Hu Wensen and Hu Wenjie are from Dali and started Guyue Pottery in Huaning county one and a half year ago. Hu Wensen said they stick to tradition and art when making their pottery pieces.
