During the National Day Golden Week, just as Yangchenghu Lake hairy crabs hit the market, Yangchenghu Lake ecological recreational tourist resort in Xiangcheng district, Suzhou, attracted thousands of visitors from Nanjing, Hangzhou, Wuxi and Suzhou.

Xiangcheng district, known as “crab town,” accounts for 70 percent of Yangchenghu Lake’s water resources and produces more than 1,300 tons of hairy crabs per year. Based on the Yangchenghu Lake ecological recreational tourist resort, Xiangcheng district has developed a pristine ecological tourism environment.

Lotus Island is the only place in the Yangchenghu Lake area without highways, automobiles and industry, where inhabitants preserve their primitive lifestyle and make a living on crab breeding. All the islanders have spontaneously furnished their yards , planted trees, flowers, fruits and vegetables. After reaching the island by yacht, visitors can go sightseeing around the island; experience local production methods and lifestyles (featuring cow ploughing and wind-powered water wheels); and better understand the basics of breeding, catching and eating crab.

As the most famous museum reflecting Jiannan culture, Yiyuan Garden Ecological Museum, which consists of a farming hall, fishing hall, folk customs hall, water town wedding ceremony hall and historical culture hall, vividly presents original production methods, lifestyles and folk culture in the Yangchenghu Lake area.
