The Wuhan-Shiyan intercity railway will begin construction soon, according to a report released by the China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co. Upon completion, travel between the two cities in Hubei province will be shortened from six hours to two and a half hours.
The 394.72 km-long railway will depart from Wuhan; travel through Xiaogan, Suizhou and Xiangyang; and arrive in Shiyan, stopping at 14 places along the way. It is also a tourism railway route covering such tourist attractions as Hanjiang National Wetland Park, the Danjiangkou Reservoir and the Wudang Mountains, providing easy access to Hubei's scenic spots.
The Wuhan-Shiyan railway is scheduled to finish construction in four years with a designed speed of 350km per hour. It will be part of the Wuhan-Xi'an-Lanzhou high-speed railway that is currently being researched.
