Some 100 artists from Beijing staged brilliant art performances in the Wudang Mountains of Shiyan city, Hubei province, on Oct 19 as part of a campaign themed "Gratitude to Shiyan People."
Shiyan has been chosen as the base of the south-to-north water diversion project. The campaign aims to express gratitude to the locals for their contribution to the water diversion project.
The performances lasted more than two hours, including dances, poetry readings, songs about the water diversion project, magic, kouji (oral stunts), Beijing opera, short plays and acrobatics. They also featured Beijing's intangible cultural heritages such as Hashi kites, paper cuttings and egg-carving artworks, which were given to the audiences afterwards to show Beijing's gratitude to Shiyan residents.
On the same day, a photography exhibition was held in Wudang's Tai Chi Theatre, showcasing photos of Shiyan's landscape taken by Beijing photographers.
The five-day campaign will continue to present performances and display photography works around Shiyan city.
