Long Mingbiao, director assistant of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council PRC, led a delegation to visit the cross-Straits exchange base in the Wudang Mountains on Oct 14.
Long noted that Wudang should take advantage of the base to seek more communication opportunities with Taiwan and transform the base into a new highlight of Wudang.
As the second cross-Straits exchange base in the country after the first in Taierzhuang, Shandong province, the base plays a key role in promoting Wudang culture and strengthening cross-Straits cultural exchanges.
Since its founding in 2010, it has held various activities, including a forum on Wudang culture, a cross-Straits youth summer camp, a Taiwan food festival, a Taiwan-Wudang cultural week and a Xuan Wu (one of the highest-ranking Taoist deities) statue tour around Taiwan.
There are 591 Xuan Wu temples in Taiwan, which have helped promote Taoist culture in the region. In addition, the Wudang Mountains have welcomed about 14,000 groups of pilgrims from Taiwan since 1987.
