On Feb 19, a conference on the construction of the Wuhan Institute of Physical Education – Wudang Mountains International Martial Arts Academy – was held in Jianguo Hotel in Wudang Mountains, Shiyan city, in central China’s Hubei province, wudangshan.gov.cn reported.
According to Hubei’s Provincial Department of Education, the academy will recruit students from this autumn. To accelerate its construction, local authorities formed a leading group led by Li Faping, vice-mayor of Shiyan city and director of the Wudang Mountains special regional management committee.
Li said that the establishment of the martial arts academy will benefit the popularization of Wudang culture, and will inject vigor and vitality into tourism and the social development of Wudang. He and other participants discussed the infrastructure’s construction and the setting up of functioning facilities in the academy.
With a planned area of 33.33 hectares and an investment of 300 million yuan ($48.99 million), the academy boasts a teaching building, administration office building, library, teachers’ apartments and a martial arts training hall.
So far, the first phase of the project has been accomplished, and the second phrase, in which playground and services facilities will be built, is smooth under way.
