A cold front, rain and snow resulted in the formation of rime ice at Wudang Mountains in Shiyan city, central China’s Hubei province, on Jan 11, and the red walls and emerald green tiles of the ancient architecture in the tourist attraction turned into a sort of fairytale landscape.
Rime refers to a coating of ice, for example, on grass and trees, formed when extremely cold water droplets freeze almost instantly on a cold surface.
In addition, bright red ribbons on trees, which contained blessings and wishes written by members of the public, also contributed to the visual effect.
