From January to June 2013, the Wudang Mountains scenic area received 2.56 million domestic and foreign tourists, and tourism revenue totaled 1.42 billion yuan ($231.5 million), which represents a year-on-year increase of 19.19 percent and 10.31 percent, respectively. The numbers surpass half of the tourism goals for 2013.
In the first half of this year, the Wudang Mountains actively explored domestic and foreign tourism markets through various forms of promotion. Advertisements of Wudang were put on CCTV programs, and tourism promotion films were broadcast in New York and Hong Kong. Apart from participating in some tourism expos, a Wudang delegation also promoted kungfu in Hong Kong, Macao, Xiamen, New York and Washington, which greatly raised the reputation of the scenic spot.
Wudang also intensified network marketing. It cooperated with many media outlets, including Xinhua, China Daily and Sina. Journalists from mainstream media were invited to visit and report on the Wudang Mountains. Special discounts were provided to the tourists during festivals such as Women’s Day. These promotional measures guaranteed the stable growth of the tourism market.
As for tourism projects, an opera called Fantastic Wudang will be put on in the newly-built Tai Chi Theater. The largest floating musical fountain in Asia will also officially open to enrich the nightlife for tourists.
The scenic area will also strengthen tourism quality and security supervision to further improve its travel environment.
