Taiwan Taoist delegation visits Wudang Mountains

A Taoist delegation of the Xuanwu community from Xinbei city in Taiwan visited Wudang Mountains on June 27 for a four-day pilgrimage including a Taoist symposium and other activities.

The 94 members of the delegation were received on June 27th by Wu Gangyi, deputy director of Shiyan Municipal Taiwan Affairs Office, and Yang Danhua, deputy director of the Wudang Mountains management committee.

The members represented 46 Xuan Wu temples and brought 24 statues of Xuan Wu, the Northern Emperor, one of the highest-ranking Taoist deities.

The Wudang Taoism symposium was held on the same day of the delegation’s arrival at Wudang Hotel. Lin Chunxia, who headed the delegation, spoke about Xinbei people’s belief in Emperor Xuan Wu. There are 600 Xuan Wu temples in Taiwan, and Xinbei is home to more than one-third of the temple members

In addition, he explained that the main purpose of this visit was to offer a formal invitation to bring the statue of Emperor Xuan Wu in Wudang Museum to Taiwan after its consecration next year, which could become the most significant event in Taoism in 2014.
