Wudang Museum was awarded the title of national second-class museum on May 6, becoming the first county-level museum in central China’s Hubei province to receive this award.
Covering an area of 5,820 square meters, and with an investment of 18 million yuan ($ 2.93 million), Wudang Museum has been open to the public free of charge since it was completed in 2008.
The museum receives about 600,000 visitors per year and aims to increase the general public’s understanding of Kung Fu, Taoism and local customs. It has seven exhibition halls with 8,449 cultural relics on display.
During the recent nomination process, 51 museums were awarded the title of national second-class museum, among which five museums are located in Hubei province. The other four museums in the province are located in Wuhan, En’shi, Shiyan and Xiangyang.
