The Double Ninth Festival, also called Chong Yang Festival, observed on the ninth day of the ninth month in the lunar calendar, is a traditional Chinese holiday.
According to the "I Ching", nine is a yang (related to the yin-yang philosophy in China) number. The ninth day of the ninth lunar month (or double nine) has too much yang (a traditional Chinese concept) and is thus a potentially dangerous date.
To protect against danger, it is customary to climb a high mountain, drink chrysanthemum wine, and wear the Zhuyu plant. Both chrysanthemum and zhuyu are considered to have cleansing qualities and are used on other occasions to air out houses and cure illnesses. On this holiday some Chinese also visit the graves of their ancestors to pay their respects.
As the saying goes, "At every holiday homesickness amplifies." It is a wonderful choice to enjoy the beauty of nature with one's family on this special holiday.
Climb Wudang Mountain
Wudang Mountain in Hubei province is regarded as the "Holy Mountain" or "Taoist Mountain." It is a blessed place for Taoism and is famous for its fairy tales.
The beauty of Wudang is rare in the world. Stretching 800 miles, the landscape along the mountain is breathtaking. The mountains are covered with trees and its water is as clear as a mirror. It is also a mountain with profound culture. It enshrines Taoism’s supreme deity and also takes great pride in practicing Wushu, Taoist medicine, Taoist tea and other influential and internationally recognized cultural heritages.
Watch the sunrise at Tai Chi Lake
Tai Chi Lake is like a pearl decorating the northwest of Shiyan city and is an ideal place for relaxation.
One thing you shouldn't miss is the sunrise on the lake. The sunshine is extremely tender setting against the limpid lake, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. If you are lucky enough, you may see fishermen spreading nets and hear their songs as you breathe in the fresh air. It is indeed a feast for the eyes and ears.
Enjoy the beautiful landscape on a sailboat
The sailboat is fully equipped so tourists can entertain themselves and get away from the pressures of daily life.
The Tai Chi Ecological and Cultural Tourism District has water-based facilities as well as numerous scenic spots separated into various itineraries depending on their features.
Diverse boats and sailboats sit by the side of the lake. You can choose an ordinary boat to make close contact with the water or a luxurious sailboat to relish the exclusive service while enjoying the picturesque landscape.
Take a stroll on Fairy Island
This island in the middle of the lake provides you a retreat away from the real world. Take a leisurely walk, stretch your body and embrace nature. This will surely be a pleasant experience!
