Zhang Kun 'From Human to Spirit' art exhibit debuts

Guangxi painter Zhang Kun exhibited his art works at a debut ceremony. The From Human to Spirit exhibit was held in Wudang Mountain at a Taoism holy scenic spot.

Zhang Kun, a natural Taoism painter, graduated from Guangxi Arts College and studied in the Tianjin Arts Institute. He first visited Wudang in 1998 and forged a deep love for the mountain.

He visited Wudang Mountain several times and painted the scenery.

His drawing style has transformed from relative concrete descriptions to random and simple drawings that indicate his understanding of the mountain as art not just on the surface, but showing a deeper soul.

The ceremony attracted a large audience, since it was similar to a Taoism culture trip.

The acclaimed artist said that the word, spirit, should not signify ghosts or feudal superstition. The spirit symbolizes a living person, his life, his work, and the land where ordinary people live.

Zhang calls himself a natural Taoist. He has dedicated his life to practice what he believes.

Mount Wudang officials noted that the art exhibition is good for publicity, while maintaining a profound meaning to expand cultural exchanges with the outside world.
