Qujiawan town, located in western Honghu city, is governed by Jingzhou city. A natural water system featuring three east-west rivers and two north-south rivers separates the town into quarters of specific functions. The national AAAA-class tourism scenic spot, with the Lantian ecological park at its center, offers silver lakes, rivers and mirage-like visions. The ancient architectures along the street built in Ming and Qing dynasties demonstrate antique folk customs. The town has broad streets, tall buildings, red flowers and green trees. At night, tens of thousands of lights shine, making the modern Qujiawan town appear as a bright pearl embedded in the bank of Honghu Lake.
The town has an area of 42.5 square kilometers, a seat of 7.5 square kilometers, and a population of 32,000 persons. The town has 13,715 mu arable lands and 100,000 mu lake areas for aquatic cultivation, with rich natural resources.
Qujiawan town has a long revolutionary tradition. An older generation of revolutionists, including He Long, Zhou Yiqun and Duan Dechang, once fought in Qujiawan. The capital of the former western Hunan-Hubei revolutionary base was situated in an old street of the town. The old street has now been listed as a cultural relic under national protection. The town has 30 extant revolutionary relics, which once served as a national patriotism education base and the Hubei national defense education base.
In recent years, Qujiawan town has seized opportunities and drawn support from external forces to vigorously develop its economy with ecological agriculture, modern processing industry, and sightseeing tourism.
It has invested nearly one billion yuan to promote constructions in the town, allowing it to reinvigorate its look. The new industrial park, following the axis of Tangcheng Avenue, exhibits the styles and features of modern metropolitan enterprises.
