More Shanxi produced content will be showcased at the second Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival (PYIFF), according to Chinese film director Jia Zhangke who is also the founder of the festival.
To boost the film industry in Shanxi province and further communication between Shanxi filmmakers and filmmakers from other countries and regions, this year's film festival adds a new permanent section called Made in Shanxi.
Films made by Shanxi-born filmmakers or with Shanxi film and television companies as first producers, set in or shot in Shanxi can participate in the festival.
"We hope to invigorate and provide opportunities for the film and television industry in Shanxi through the Pingyao International Film Festival so that these local creations in Shanxi can be shown around the world and promote the development of the Shanxi film industry," said Jia on Oct 9.
Nine films including Patrolman Baoyin and Petals Flutter, have been selected into this year's Made in Shanxi section and will be screened during the festival.
Other events such as the "Made-In-Shanxi" Industry Promotion Party and filmmaker party focusing on Shanxi film industry and culture will be held during the festival.
In addition, the film festival will annually choose one city and one county in Shanxi to promote at each festival. Doing so will promote tourism in the province and build up Shanxi as a film and television shooting base. Jinzhong city and Qinyuan county in Changzhi city will be promoted during the event this year.
Launched by Jia Zhangke and Italian filmmaker Marco Müller, the PYIFF was held in the Ancient City of Pingyao for the first time in 2017. With the theme "Boutique Festival for the People", this year's festival is held from Oct 11 to 20.
