Yicheng Huagu has a long history dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Since the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Yincheng Huagu has been a traditional performance put on for the people in the county to celebrate the harvest and worship their ancestors.

Yicheng Huagu features simple and bold movements, a brisk rhythm, and the passion of the performers. It is primarily performed in processions, city squares, and on stage. It uses simple musical instruments such as drums, and involves the singing of local folk songs.

The folk art has been passed down from generation to generation without losing its appeal and is closely connected with people’s daily lives. It has provided modern people with a historical understanding of the social changes that have taken place in ancient Yicheng county.

It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
