The 2018 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum and Summit Forum opened at China Taiyuan Coal Transaction Center, North China's Shanxi province, on Sept 16.
Around 600 people from more than 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, France, and Germany attended the forum, including experts from companies, universities, research institutions, and international organizations in the energy field, as well as officials from related organizations.
With a focus on how the energy revolution will benefit mankind, the forum aims to explore the changing energy mix and increase international cooperation in the energy field.
Ji Bingxuan, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, pointed out that with decreasing natural resources, promoting low-carbon energy development and clean and efficient use of energy is increasingly becoming the focus of energy transformation in the fight against climate change.
Shanxi province is a traditional energy center and emphasizes energy-related development, and the forum provides a platform to exchange views and achievements in tackling problems related to energy transformation and promoting global sustainable development, added Ji.
Other guests, including those from the International Energy Agency, International Renewable Energy Agency, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, and the Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commission, also addressed the forum, with topics ranging from improving related policies to promoting sustainable production and lifestyles.
Running until Sept 18, the event features a summit forum, six sub-forums and one international cooperation conference. The sub-forums will discuss topics such as promotion and application of new energy technology and companies' roles in energy reform.
