Wine vessel (he) with a bird-shaped lid and human feet

This vessel, 34.6 cm tall, was unearthed in the village of Beizhao, at Tomb No 31 of the Jin site, in 1992. The tomb is for the wife of Marquis Xian of the Jin. The vessel has a unique shape and two curious male feet, a bird for a lid, a dragon spout, an animal-head handle, and a little bear holding the tail of a bird, in full relief, with a craftsmanship that merges traditions in an organic whole for an extraordinary piece of sculpture.
