Attracting more skilled workers and reforming the personnel system is necessary for coal companies to complete transformation and upgrading, said Yao Wujiang, a Shanxi deputy to the 13th National People's Congress and a mechanical and electrical technician of Yangquan coal industry group, during the annual legislative session in Beijing.

As a coal rich province, Shanxi leads the national energy revolution. Cutting excess production capacity and closing outdated facilities, while exploring a sustainable method of development, have been the key tasks in upgrading the local coal industry.

The transformation demands more competitive and innovative employees working in coal companies.

Yao advised that a regular communication platform for skilled workers and professionals in the coal industry be established.

Partnerships between companies and universities and colleges can help solve challenges –– companies offer advanced facilities, new techniques and key technical problems to be solved while universities and colleges organize related skills competitions in which the best students can sign employment contracts in advance.

Also, a regular re-evaluation mechanism for vocational skills qualifications should be promoted to encourage innovation and lifelong learning.
