More than 700 trainees from the first training session organized by China Craft Town in Houma county, Shanxi province, attended the closing ceremony of the training on Feb 1.
The training class in the first session offered three majors, namely painting, weaving and embroidery. Among the 700 trainees, 400 signed purchase order agreements at the ceremony with Shanxi Nayingjie Co, a handicraft service business. During the event, Mayor Duan Huigang awarded vocational skills training certificates to 30 trainees.
China Craft Town, a project based on the culture and arts, food, and health care industries, is Houma county's move to offer a platform for showcasing traditional Chinese crafts and building a regional base for emerging industries.
Since the craft town project was launched in 2017, China Craft Town has been focusing on combining cultural development with poverty alleviation.
It has drawn up 10 vocational skills training plans related to handicrafts to help rural residents, people with disabilities, laid-off workers, the unemployed, and ex-service personnel master crafts, thus helping them out of financial difficulties and to start businesses.
