Vacuum-packed corn worth $18,000 was exported to Russia on April 30, marking the first time that corn from Shanxi province has entered the Russian market.
The corn was produced by Wuzhai county-based Kangyu Industrial Co, a leading processing company for glutinous corn in Shanxi.
Wuzhai county in the northwest of Shanxi has a varied climate and abundant sunshine. The area has become famous for its corn. Corn was grown in 4,200 hectares of the county during 2016 and the local area aims to develop the biggest production base for glutinous corn in Shanxi province.
The export is expected to improve the county's reputation for food production and help further improve local corn-related industries, such as planting and processing.
