A lantern show will take place each night from Jan 20 to Feb 19 in Datong, lighting the ancient city with various lamps during the Spring Festival holiday.
Differing from previous shows, the lantern show in 2017 will cover the ancient city walls, which measure 7.2 km in length. There will be some 160 groups of traditional colored lanterns, including LED lamps as well as interaction sites for tourists in an area of almost 350 hectares.
The lamps on the ancient city walls will be arranged according to different themes, such as "the ice world", "folk customs of Spring Festival" and "culture of the ancient city", creating a visual feast. Visitors can experience local folk activities and learn about the history and culture of the ancient city, while browsing colorful lanterns and enjoying the city at night.
