Photographers from around the world have poured into Pingyao to join in the 16th Pingyao International Photography Festival (PIP), which runs from Sept 19 to 25.
This year's PIP, inspired by the theme "global mindset, Chinese spirit", aims to embrace a modern multicultural spirit while also celebrating traditional Chinese culture.
The festival comprises 522 photography exhibitions on social life, natural landscapes and artistic ideas. Some 15,000 pictures covering documentary, commercial and artistic photography are on show in nine exhibition areas across the county, such as Pingyao Diesel Engine Factory and Qingxu Taoist Temple.
The event will also act as a platform for photographers and photography institutions from 33 countries and regions to exchange their views on the world and professional techniques, enhancing the cultural and technical communication between China and other countries.
For instance, Jean Pierre Laffont, an experienced French photographer, presents his works which reflects American society from 1960 to 1990 at the PIP, demonstrating the cultural and social changes in this developed economy in the last century.
As for further cooperation on photography techniques, 80 foreign universities and colleges will participate in the event. A series of open courses will be organized, as well as a photography education forum to provide photography enthusiasts with learning opportunities.
"While developing closer relationships with domestic and overseas partners, Pingyao hopes to spark innovation through communication and encourage more profound photographic works," said Wu Xiaohua, the Party chief of the county.
In addition, a trade exhibition of international photography galleries will be part of the PIP this year, transforming the event into a multinational convention and exhibition. Many other activities will be held during the PIP, including an investment and trade fair as well as a microfilm festival.
