Hundreds of Shanxi's products in 11 categories were on display at the first leg of the 2016 Shanxi Brand Silk Road Tour that opened in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on May 10.

The 5-day event, mounted by the Shanxi provincial government, displayed featured products from 48 renowned brands of North China's Shanxi province, including coarse cereals, vinegars, food processing apparatus, beverages and alcohol, dehydrated vegetables, health care food, and arts and crafts.

An investment promotion meeting was held during the exhibition centering on introduction of South Korea's technologies and capital in the fields of electronics, automobiles, high technology, and new energy.

"The tour to South Korea will expand Shanxi's presence in Northeast Asia and bring more products from Shanxi province to South Korea," said Sun Yuejin, director of Shanxi's Department of Commerce, adding that Shanxi openly welcomes visitors from around the world.

This event was part of Shanxi's plan approved last September to take part in the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (Belt and Road Initiative). In South Korea, Shanxi province hopes to expand collaboration in agricultural products and culture between the two sides.

The Shanxi Brands Silk Road Tour, launched in June 2015 as an expansion of the Shanxi Brands China Tour, promotes cooperation and mutual benefit.

Shanxi held business promotions and product exhibitions in many countries in 2015, including Hungary, Kyrghyzstan, Russia, Italy, and Thailand.

The event will continue in 2016 in Poland, Australia, and India in addition to South Korea. Shanxi will also take part in top level professional fairs in Germany, Indonesia, Switzerland, Russia, United Arab Emirates, and the US.
