The Spring Festival of 2016 is the second one Cao Ruihong has spent in Romania as a volunteer Chinese teacher. This year, the girl from North China's Shanxi province organized a Chinese Spring Festival party at a local senior high school's Confucius Classroom on Feb 20 to celebrate the Chinese traditional festival.
Cao went to Romania in October of 2014 after graduation from Zhejiang Forestry University, working as a Chinese teacher for the Liceu Ferdinand I senior high school affiliated to the University of Bucharest's Confucius Institute.
The idea of holding a Spring Festival Party came to her on Chinese New Year's eve. Cao said, on the one hand, she wants to take the chance to express her homesickness for her hometown, and on the other hand, Spring Festival is a good opportunity for Romanians to gain a better understanding about Chinese culture and what Chinese lunar New Year is all about.
Fortunately, her proposal won support and response from Liceu Ferdinand I senior high school and from some Chinese culture fans in Bacau.
The party presented traditional Chinese performances such as dragon dances, tea art performances, Han Chinese clothing dances, a cheongsam show and some Chinese popular and classic songs.
Attendees at the party included Chinese teachers from the University of Bucharest, volunteer Chinese teachers, students of the Liceu Ferdinand I senior high school's Chinese classes, and their parents.
Ms. Mirela Berza, president of Liceu Ferdinand I Senior High School, expressed her gratitude for the efforts the Confucius Institute and volunteer Chinese teachers, including Cao Ruihong, made in holding the party and she hoped there will be more students taking Chinese courses.
Cao Ruihong said she likes Romania and hopes she can do more for the long-lasting friendship between the two countries.
"I dream of becoming an excellent Chinese teacher for foreigners. I want to be a government sponsored teacher after my two-year volunteer service period ends and continue to spread Chinese culture," Cao added.
