Shanxi receives 33.58 million tourists in National Day holiday

North China’s Shanxi province received 33.58 million tourists during Golden Week-the National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7. The figure grew 17.02 percent from last October’s, the province’s tourism bureau said on Oct 7.

Meanwhile, the province's tourism income increased by 16.15 percent year-on-year, to 21.34 billion yuan ($3.37 billion) in this National Day holiday.

More than 5.64 million tourists traveled to Shanxi’s thirty-six key attractions, spending 194 million yuan. The Ancient City of Pingyao, Huangcheng Prime Minister’s Mansion and the Qiao Family Compound were among the top five most popular destinations in Shanxi.

Moreover, the Ancient City of Pingyao hit the third place among top ten most-visited places in China during the seven-day holiday.

In addition to tourists from surrounding regions, including Beijing, Hebei, Henan, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia; Shanxi received more tourists came from farther regions such as Guangdong, Jiangsu, Sichuan and Shanghai.

Tourists from outside the province prefer travel to its 4 and 5A-level destinations, while local tourists prefer village, ecological and red tourism.
