Shanxi's economic figures in first half

The GDP of North China’s Shanxi province increased 2.7 percent over the same period last year in the first half, according to the economic figures published by the province on July 28.

The province's GDP in the first six months was 581.42 billion yuan ($93.61 billion). The added value of primary industry was 33.08 billion yuan, growing 4 percent; secondary industry’s added value declined 2.6 percent to 246.21 billion yuan and the tertiary industry’s added value increased to 301.126 billion yuan, an increase of 9.8 percent over the same period last year.

From January to June, the province’s added value of industry above designated size fell 3.9 percent. The added value of coal, coke, electricity, metallurgy, chemicals, construction materials, foods and textile industries above designated size all decreased.

It is notable that the industrial companies above designated size reached sales income of 576.43 billion yuan from January to May, down 15.4 percent from last year, while total profits decreased 58 percent to 1.82 billion yuan.

However, there were still bright spots. Emerging industries enjoyed rapid growth. The added value of equipment manufacturing grew 19.1 percent, and coal-bed gas mining increased 15.6 percent, while the medical industry went up 1.5 percent.

By the end of June this year, the province’s fixed assets achieved investment of 421.17 billion yuan, up 12.8 percent from the first half of 2014. Non-governmental fixed assets investment reached 252.72 billion yuan, accounting for 60 percent of the province’s total.

Non-coal industry completed investment of 138.21 billion yuan in the first six months, increasing by 10.1 percent, 2.7 percent points higher than the province’s growth rate of industrial investment, which has grew 7.4 percent to 178.12 billion yuan.

Real estate maintained good development with a total investment of 52.36 billion yuan.

In the same period, the retail sales of consumer goods totaled 284.39 billion yuan, growing 5 percent from last year.

Tourism achieved income of 155.95 billion yuan, rising 19.7 percent from 2014’s first six months. The province received 166.28 million tourists in total from January to June, both from home and abroad. .

In the first half of the year, the total volume of imports and exports was 45.54 billion yuan, 17.9 percent more than last year’s.

The revenue in the general public budget fell by 7.8 percent to 92.5 billion yuan. Expenditure in the general public budget also decreased to 128.31 billion yuan.

By the end of June, the balance of deposits in the province’s financial organizations was 2,815.84 billion yuan, 111.98 billion yuan more than at the beginning of the year.

Disposable income per capita in Shanxi was 8,258 yuan in the first half, growing 0.4 percent after accounting for price factors.
