The county of Pingyao announced a program to retake the Prairie Silk Road, on March 6, marking the beginning of a program that it announced at the 1st Silk Road forum, on Oct 30 of last year, which calls for Shanxi business people to take a trek through Erdos, Inner Mongolia's to Ulan Bator, then to Russia and down to Milan, Italy for economic and cultural cooperation.
The Silk Road connects China with Eurasia and has supported ancient and modern civilizations, explained Cao Zhisheng, Pingyao’s head, who added that the county was an important town on the road and Shanxi merchants left their mark with their honest and inclusive business practices. He concluded by saying that this program will help carry on that Silk Road spirit, while calling on business people to come learn more about Pingyao and invest in it and reclaim the Silk Road and revitalize China’s merchant glory.
