On October 28, in an effort to preserve cultural heritages across the province, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Finance allocated 24 million yuan ($3.93 million) for the protection of ancient villages.
The special funds will be used for drinking water source protection, rural domestic sewage and garbage disposal, livestock and poultry pollution treatment, management of rural industrial mining pollution, and prevention and control of rural diffused pollution and soil pollution. Each of the 16 traditional villages in Shanxi province will receive a subsidy of 1.5 million yuan.
