Shanxi's Hunyuan county forestry bureau has revealed that two wetland parks in the province – Shenxi Wetland Park in Hunyuan county and Qinheyuan Wetland Park in Changzhi City – recently got approval from the State Forestry Bureau, as a national-level pilot park construction project.
Shenxi Wetland Park, covering an area of 3,159,900 square meters, boasts flushing mountain springs, rippling blue lakes, the famous “Shenxi Moon” which is one of the eight famous ancient scenic spots in Hunyuan, and abundant cultural landscapes such as an ancient stage and ancient dwellings. There are various types of wetland resources, distinct wetland landscapes and cultural landscapes, as well as abundant animal and plant resources in this area.
The Qinheyuan Wetland Park, with its high forest coverage rate, is rich in wildlife and full of ravines. The ecosystem there is complex but clear, providing good conditions for it to develop into a wetland. Qinhe River is the second largest river in Shanxi province. The source of the river has unique water system features, and is developing a unique type of river-based wetland, which has quite a high research value in the Loess Plateau wetlands.
Until now, Shanxi has had 5 national-level wetland parks. The other 3 are Gucheng Wetland Park in Yuanqu county, Qianquanhu Wetland Park in Qin county and Changyuan Wetland Park in Qi county.
