Situated in southeastern Jiangsu, and the center of Yangtze River Delta enjoying rapid economic development, Wuxi adjoins Taihu Lake to the south and the Yangtze River to the north. It is 128 kilometers away from Shanghai in the east and 183 kilometers away fromNanjing in the west.
Covering an area of 4,627 square kilometers and having a permanent population of 6.5 million, Wuxi has two county-level cities, Jiangyin and Yixing, and seven districts, namely, Chong’an, Nanchang, Beitang, Xishan, Huishan, Binhu and the Wuxi New district under its jurisdiction.

Boasting a history of 6,000-7,000 years, Wuxi is a historical city with profound cultural heritages and a large amount of talents. It's home to the Wu Culture in ancient times, and the national industrial and commercial culture in modern times.

Transformation and upgrading
Aiming at building a modernization model zone in southern Jiangsu, Wuxi is exerting itself in forging “three centers in three areas” and building a modern industrial system.
In 2013, the National Sensing Network Innovative Model Zone made considerable development and its Internet of Things industry saw a rapid growth of 47.2%.
Urban commercial complexes like Hang Lung Plaza and Suning Plaza opened for business, and Wuxi Studios was put into use.
The city received more than 70 million overseas and domestic tourists in 2013.
Wuxi also accelerated the development of the National Modern Agricultural Demonstration Zone, making itself a leader in agricultural modernization in Jiangsu province.
A total of 88 enterprises were incorporated under the “530 Program” frameworks. Moreover, five Nobel laureates and eight foreign academicians established workstations and institutes.
A total of 14 enterprises were included among the Chinese Top 500 Enterprises, and 21 enterprises among the China Top 500 Manufacturers.
The city’s total energy consumption per unit output value decreased by 4.1%.
