Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze Road Bridge is the largest double plane double tower cable-stayed bridge in the world. It lies 82 kms from the Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge and 108 kms from the estuary of the Yangtze River.

The major span is as long as 1,088 meters, which is 200 meters longer than that of the Tatara Bridge in Japan, the bridge which had the largest span in the world up until now. The main bridge is 6.78 kilometers long and the main tower is 300.4 meters high, which is the highest in the world. The stayed-cable is 577 meters long, also the longest in the world. The embedded depth of its foundation reaches 80 meters, and navigation headroom is 62 meters, enabling 50,000-ton container-ships to pass underneath.

The bridge can withstand a gale with a maximum speed of 47m/s, which is twice as fast as a grade twelve typhoon.
