Travel checks tightened to Shanghai

2010-April-16 09:31:43

All passengers traveling from Hangzhou to Shanghai must first register their names and show photo IDs from April 15 to ensure a safe World Expo, the Safety & Security Team of Shanghai Expo Zhejiang Office announced on April 1.

Passengers in cars, trains and airplanes must fill in forms that will be checked at security checkpoints, the office said.

Group passengers on day tours with travel agents will also be requested to register their names. Random checks of individual passengers will be conducted as well.

All carry-on luggage in vehicles will be inspected, and any prohibited or hazardous items will be confiscated.

Passengers wishing to book a taxi to Shanghai must ensure the driver has two passes, one to enter the Expo site, and the other to enter the city from the local transport administration office.

At Jiaxing City, there are six security checks to inspect taxis and scan all luggage. The driver must register the names and ID of passengers before starting the journey.
