February 28th is the Lantern Festival of 2010. Hangzhou is decorated by various lanterns all over the streets and lanes.

The Lantern Festival is a Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar year in the Chinese calendar. During the Lantern Festival, people go out at night carrying lanterns and solve riddles on the lanterns. It officially ends the Chinese New Year celebration thus it is also known as the Little New Year.

In ancient times, the lanterns were fairly simple, for only the emperor and noblemen had large ornate ones; in modern times, lanterns have been embellished with many complex designs. For this year of tiger, many lanterns are made in shapes of tigers.
