A spectacular Chinese acrobatic show staged on Saturday at the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall near the Kremlin added much fun to Russia's New Year celebrations.
Starting with the exquisite acrobatic dance "Dunhuang," the show presented the Russian audience various unique stunts such as plate spinning and chairs stacking, which were performed by skillful acrobats from the Chinese city of Hangzhou in more than an hour's show.
When four acrobats danced in the air with two ribbons, to the tune of the ineffably moving melody of "Butterfly Lovers," viewers were dazzled.
At the end of the show, Chinese acrobats wished the Russian people a happy new year. They also hoped to come back for next NewYear's performance.
"My favorite show was that a dozen sisters rode one bicycle together," said a little girl named Masha.
"I've told Mom I would learn to ride a bicycle after going home," she said.
Andris Liepa, chairman of Maris Liepa Charitable Foundation that cosponsored the show, told Xinhua that it is the third time that these Chinese acrobats have visited Russia, and each time they were ardently received by the audience.
Chinese culture, as manifested by Chinese acrobatics, has gained increasing popularity in Russia, he said.
Hopefully, more Chinese arts such as Peking Opera can be introduced to the Russian people in the future, he added.
