Seal-cutter's art

2009-December-1 09:16:53

Fei Mingyao, a well-known Chinese seal-cutting artist from Shanghai, has published a collection of signature works.

The collection, published by Xiling Yinshe Publishing House from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, features over 1,300 images of stamped signets the 62-year-old has created over the past five decades.

The critically acclaimed serial seals for the rhythmic classic Qian Zi Wen (The Thousand-Character Verse), and work featuring renowned scholar Ji Xianlin's poem Ode to Mt Taishan, are the top draw.

Closely associated with calligraphy and ink painting, the traditional art of seal-cutting has recently been put on the List of World Intangible Cultural Heritages by UNESCO with Chinese calligraphy, and Xuan (rice) paper making skills.

Fei's art show runs at the Museum of Beijing Academy of Fine Art till today.
