The Albanian authorities have repatriated Shen Lei, a Chinese national wanted in connection with a 100-million-yuan (15 million US dollars) fraud, China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said Monday.
Shen was escorted back to China on Oct. 15, about four months after he was arrested at Tirana International Airport in Albania on June 19, according to the ministry.
Police in east China's Hangzhou city named Shen as the main suspect in a major financial fraud case that they started to investigate in May.
The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) issued a red notice regarding Shen at the request of China, after Shen left the country.
"Shen's case is yet another success for the Chinese police in extraditing criminal suspects from Europe," the MPS said in a statement on its website.
China is still seeking a number of people wanted in connection with economic offences, including Lai Changxing, the lead suspect in a 10-billion-US-dollar smuggling case.
Lai, now living in Vancouver, was accused of masterminding the country's largest smuggling ring. He went to Canada in 1999. China has been seeking his return to face charges of smuggling, bribery and tax evasion.
Canada repatriated Liu Xiaoquan, wanted in connection with a 400,000-yuan fraud case, on Oct. 21, about three years after he left China.
