Zhejiang University and Hangzhou Normal University (HNU) launched a signing ceremony for a collaboration agreement on Nov 10 at the Wenyi Campus of Hangzhou Normal University.

Yang Wei and Ye Gao Xiang signed the agreement on behalf of Zhejiang University of Hangzhou Normal University respectively.

HNU, as Hangzhou’s only comprehensive university, cannot fully achieve the final goal of ranking among the first-class universities without the help of Zhejiang University, according to HNU officials. Zhejiang University will provide comprehensive support to HNU in five aspects of course selection, scientific research, talent education, teachers’ training and working mechanics, the university said.

Wang Guoping, member of the standing committee of the CPC Zhejiang Committee and chief secretary of the CPC Hangzhou Committee, along with Cai Qi, deputy secretary of the CPC Hangzhou Committee and mayor of Hangzhou, delivered speeches at the ceremony.

Wang said colleges are the sources of talents, knowledge and innovation and cities and universities are interdependent. Hangzhou will promote Zhejiang University to be an “Eastern Cambridge”, which will help Hangzhou present a city of quality lives, Wang added.

Cai acclaimed the previous cooperation between the two sides and said he hoped every project in the agreement could be carried out fully. Focus will be on building key majors, new institutes and improving teaching qualities, which call for great help from Zhejiang University, Cai said, adding the Municipal Government will put this cooperation at the top of the working agenda.
